Make the Most of your Detox in the Spring

Why your body experiences the most benefits with a Springtime detox.

Traditionally we think of spring as the time of year to clean house. It's also an important time to clean our internal house, and rid our bodies of the accumulation of toxins being stored. While it may seem obvious to detox after the winter months of holiday indulgences, doing a cleanse isn't all about losing winter weight (although that is an added benefit, and great motivator). It's actually the natural biorhythm and shift in energy during the Spring season transition is why we see the most benefits when doing a detox in the Spring. In nature Spring brings new growth and regeneration, making it an ideal time to refresh our system with a detox.


How do you know if your body needs to be detoxed?


Common signs you could benefit from doing a detox are if you experience fatigue, sleep issues, weight gain, sluggishness/brain fog, chronic pain, bloating, indigestion, constipation, low energy, depression, infection, allergies, headaches, or poor gut health. All of these symptoms, amongst others, may indicate the presence of excess toxins in the body that need to be eliminated.


Every day of our lives we absorb, ingest, and inhale toxins - pesticides, pollutants, food additives, heavy metals, etc. Then of course drugs and alcohol that have toxic effects on the body. Even stressful environments from home and work can contribute to toxic retention. All of these things make it necessary to detox occasionally to maintain balance in the body, and there is no better time to do it than Spring!


If losing weight is one of your detox goals, a Springtime detox can be especially rewarding. Aside from holiday treats or extra cocktails, in the Winter we tend to slow down, stay indoors and become more sedentary. This facilitates more waste to accumulate within our bodies. Additionally, Winter is naturally the time of year when our bodies are most likely to store fat to survive colder weather. However, this fat is also the safety deposit box used by the body to sequester absorbed toxins to prevent them from damaging vital tissues. In Spring our bodies shift mode and much of the fat storage needed to survive Winter becomes superfluous, so the body is most likely to lose this stored fat. That is if our fat storage is free of toxins from the extra accumulated waste.


By detoxing you can expect to feel health improvements like weight loss, increased energy, brighter skin, fuller sleep cycles, reduced cravings, better gut health, and better mental clarity.
